The Arc de Triomphe in Paris (fr. Arc de triomphe) is a monumental building located in the capital of France, the construction of which was initiated by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806, and its completion ended in 1836 during the reign of King Louis Philip of the Orlean dynasty. The main designer was Jean Francois Chalgrin. The building is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris on the edge of the Champs Elysees and, next to the Eiffel Tower, is one of the most characteristic symbols of the city. The Triumphal Arch was erected to commemorate those who died for France during the revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. The building is decorated with 4 reliefs symbolizing, among others: Marseillaise or Peace. The names of over 380 officers fighting for France are also engraved on the arch, including the names of 7 officers from Poland, including: Fr. Józef Poniatowski or gen. Ch³opicki. It is worth adding that under the Arch there is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
