"Apocalypto" is a 2006 film by Mel Gibson, which was nominated for an Oscar a year later in three categories: best sound, editing and make-up. The action of the film was set in one of the Maya countries, probably at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, and therefore shortly before the expeditions of the Spanish conquistadors. "Apocalypto" was shot with great attention to historical and anthropological details, and its shooting used fragments of descriptions of Spanish missionaries from the beginning of the modern era and the so-called Manuscript of the Chichicastenango. Interestingly, the actors do not use English in the film, but the yucatec dialect, which is considered to be slightly changed since the Maya times. It is therefore the same procedure that Mel Gibson used in the movie "Passion". The main character of the film is the Jaguar's Paw fighter (played by Rudy Youngblood), who is captured by the army and is to be dedicated to one of the Mayan deities. However, he manages to escape into the jungle. Of course, a chase starts after him, but he does not live up to the task and is knocked out by the main character.
