Pernstejn Castle is a Czech stronghold dating back to the full Middle Ages, located in the South Moravian country. Based on source studies, it can be stated that the Pernstejn Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century as the property of the Pernstejn knightly family. Already in the fourteenth century, the castle was significantly expanded, taking on an eminently defensive character and becoming one of the most powerful fortresses in the Czech Kingdom. The castle was also well located, on a natural rocky hill. It was probably then - although it is not certain - that the so-called Barborka Tower, which served as the characteristic last defense site. In the 15th century, the castle became the property of the Mitrovic family and remained their property until 1945! In the modern era, the fortress in Pernstejn did not lose its military character, as evidenced by the successfully repulsed sieges during the Thirty Years' War. At present, thanks to regular renovation and conservation, and the lack of changes in the architectural character of the castle, it is one of the best-preserved buildings of this type in South Bohemia.
