Type S138 is the class designation for the German large torpedo boats from the beginning of the 20th century and the First World War. The first unit of this type was launched in 1906, and the last one five years later - in 1911. The length of a single ship of this class - depending on the subtype - ranged from 70.7 to 74.7 meters, with a width of 7.8 to 7.9 meters. Full displacement ranged from approx. 680 to approx. 830 tons, and the maximum speed - up to 30-32 knots. The on-board armament, at the time of launch, usually consisted of a single 88 mm SK L / 35 gun, a single 52 mm SK L / 55 gun and three 460 mm torpedo tubes.

The S138 type ships were built primarily for the German Kaiserliche Marine, and their only export recipient was Turkey. It is worth adding, however, that out of 65 completed ships, only 4 were under the Turkish flag. Units of this type were built primarily for use in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, therefore they had a relatively limited range and autonomy, but had a relatively high maximum speed and good armament. It is worth adding that units of this type were built in three different shipyards: Schichau in Elbl±g, Vulcan in Szczecin and Germaniawerft in Kiel. Various combinations of drive units were also used on this type of unit. It is worth adding that the S138 type ships took part in World War I, and many ships of this type were sunk during the war. They operated mainly against the British and Russian fleets in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Only a few of them survived - in one technical condition or another - until the outbreak of World War II.
