Tatra 87 is a Czechoslovak passenger car from the interwar period, World War II and the post-war period. The first copies of this car appeared in 1936, and serial production continued intermittently in the years 1936-1950. The car was powered by a single 8-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.9 liters and 85 HP.
Tatra 87 was a luxury limousine intended for the civil market. It was characterized by a very unusual design, created by Hans Ledwinek and Erich Uberlacker, as well as a powerful engine that allowed the car to accelerate to almost 160 km / h, which at that time made Tatry 87 one of the fastest mass-produced passenger cars. The car also ensured a very high driving comfort - both for the driver and passengers. Tatra 87 has been exported to many countries. It served, among others: Edward Benesz, one of the most important Czechoslovak politicians of the interwar period, or the ruler of Egypt, Faruk I. At the outbreak of World War II, many of these cars were mobilized and served as staff cars for officers of the German armed forces during this armed conflict .
