In 1810 Sweden as its heir to the throne of the French marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, who became king of this country in 1818 (as Charles XIV John) and in the Napoleonic era actually ruled Sweden as heir to the throne. It is worth adding that Jean Baptiste Bernadotte initiated the reign of the dynasty that still rules Sweden today! As a former high officer with considerable military experience, he began reforms in the Swedish army. First of all, he tried to provide her with the best possible financing from taxes and to increase her number through conscription. He also tried to ensure a high level of training of soldiers. As a result of political disputes with Napoleon, Bernadotte supported the VI coalition and joined it in the fight against his former superior. He took part in the Battle of Leipzig in 1813, leading probably about 25,000 men. Interestingly, after this battle, Bernadotte withdrew his troops north, defeated Denmark and incorporated Norway into his new country.
