Klasa Tegetthoff
In 1907, the dualist multinational state of Austria-Hungary placed an order to build a new class of ships, modeled after HMS "Dreadnought", with a standardized caliber for heavy artillery, which was named Tegetthoff. A total of four ships were laid keel: the flagship of the fleet, "Viribus Unitis", "Tegetthoff", "Prinz Eugen" and "Szent Istvan". The last one was not completed until World War I. The lives of the ships were not very rich. Most of the time they were stationed as "Fleet in Beeing" in a well-protected naval port in Pola, occasionally interrupting their inactivity with shooting exercises that took place in the Fasana Canal (Fazanski Kanal), sheltered by the forward and heavily fortified Islands Brionische Inseln. During the war, the most talented members of their crews were transferred to submarine weapons, for service on board torpedoes or to the land front, and they were replaced by less valuable reservists. Due to the fact that the service of the second of these ships ended dramatically should be dealt with in detail.
,,Viribus Unitis"
On July 23, 1910, at the San Marco shipyard, the keel was laid for Battleship IV, which was launched on June 24, 1911. The empire seized the opportunity to organize a magnificent celebration that was to be of great importance for domestic politics. At the emperor's request, the ship was given the rather unusual Latin name "Viribus Unitis" (United Forces).
