Klimov RD-33 (called Klimov RD-33 ) is a Soviet turbofan aviation engine from the post-war and modern times. The engine was first successfully started in 1974. In the basic version, the engine length was 4.23 meters, with a diameter of 1.04 meters. The weight of the "dry" engine of this type did not exceed 1055 kilograms. The engine was able to generate a maximum thrust of 50 kN, and with the afterburner - 81.3 kN. The presented drive unit was developed in the OKB-117 design office, which currently belongs to the Klimow company (Joint Stock Company Klimov). The engine was a kind of Soviet response to the afterburner engines used in the 1970s in NATO machines, which were more efficient than those used in the MiG-21 or MiG-27 aircraft. The new engine was also intended from a relatively early stage of design and development to power the new MiG-29 light fighter. It is worth adding that in the course of production and further development of the engine, several versions were created, including: RD-33B / NB, RD-93, RD-33MK (used on MiG-29K or MiG-35 aircraft) and WK- 10M.
