Leonardo Da Vinci (born in 1452, died in 1519) was undoubtedly one of the most brilliant people of the Renaissance and is widely regarded as one of the most talented people in history. He was not only an exceptionally talented painter, author of such masterpieces as "The Lady with an Ermine" or "The Last Supper", but also an extremely prolific inventor and innovator. This outstanding man at the end of his life was asked by Pope Leo X to create a device that was to dazzle the then king of France - Francis I. Leonardo da Vinci decided to create a design of a mechanical lion that would be able to move on flat terrain, and what is more - he is almost sure that this unusual project has been realized! There are many indications that this mechanical lion was presented to him as a gift for Francis I in the summer of 1515. Unfortunately, this unusual work by Leonardo Da Vinci has not survived to our times in the version from the 16th century.
