The MD-520N NOTAR is an American multi-role light helicopter from the Cold War and modern times. The prototype flight took place in 1990. The total length of the machine is approximately 9.6 meters and the main rotor diameter is approximately 8.3 meters. The height of the helicopter is approximately 2.7 meters, and the maximum speed is up to 250 km / h. However, the maximum range does not exceed 430 kilometers. The MD-520N NOTAR helicopter was developed by the Mcdonnell-Douglas plant (since 1997, part of the Boeing concern) for the civil and military market. The machine was based on the MD-500E helicopter, but it has a very important innovation - instead of the classic tail rotor, an avant-garde solution was installed in the form of a horizontally guided fan closed in the tail beam, which "ejects" exhaust gases from the engine. This technology was patented by Mcdonnell-Douglas under the name NOTOR. It allows you to significantly reduce the noise generated by the flying helicopter, eliminate the tail rotor prone to damage in combat, and also slightly improve the aerodynamic properties of the machine.
