Fablok Ls40 (another designation: SM02 series) is a series of standard-gauge diesel shunting locomotives, which were produced in the years 1952-1961 at the Fablok plant in Chrzanów. The service weight of a single locomotive was 16 tons, and its length with buffers - 6 m. The locomotive was constructed using the B axis system. In total, about 580 examples were produced.
The SM02 series locomotive has found a marginal application in the Polish State Railways, due to its short range (only 60 km!) And the maximum speed of 11 km / h. It was also unable to haul large loads. However, these disadvantages turned out to be advantages in the Polish industry, which used the Fablok Ls40 locomotives on the company's sidings on a relatively large scale. Also its relatively low operating costs were undoubtedly an advantage here. Initially, the locomotives of this series were powered by a 40hp engine, but were quickly replaced with the 60hp S324HL, and later with the 75hp S324. So far, around 20 Fablok Ls40 locomotives have been preserved in our country.
