Rolls-Royce Bristol Pegasus is an aircraft turbofan engine from the Cold War period and modern times of British production. The first successful engine start-up took place in 1959. Over 1,200 engines of this type have been manufactured so far. In the Pegasus 11-61 version, the engine measures 348 cm in length with a diameter of 122 cm. The weight of the "dry" engine is 1796 kilograms. The thrust generated by this engine reaches - in the latest version - up to 106 kN. The engine was originally designed at Bristol Siddeley, but now Rolls-Royce is responsible for its development and production. The Pegasus engine is a unique power unit, as it allows you to rotate the nozzles and direct them also downwards, which in turn allows the plane to take off and land vertically (VSTOL). Moreover, its parameters allow not only for the vertical hover of the plane, but also for the subsequent transition from this position to classic horizontal flight. Rolls-Royce Bristol Pegasus is used on all Harrier aircraft (both British and American).
