The modern Canadian Armed Forces were formed in 1968, and their very important element is the Canadian Army, which is their land component. It is worth adding that this Army inherits - often great - traditions of Canadian land forces from the period of both world wars. In total, on the peace footing, in 2005 the Canadian Armed Forces numbered about 64,000 people, of which about 21,000 professional soldiers served in the ground forces. It is worth adding, however, that these forces can be increased by approximately 50,000 reservists. Obviously, the quantitatively most important component of these troops is infantry. At the foot of the peace, the most important element of the Canadian army are three Mechanized Brigade Groupe, which include: an armored battalion, two mechanized infantry battalions or a light infantry battalion. The main shooting weapon of the Canadian infantryman is the 5.56mm Colt Canada C7 assault rifle. The Canadian Army also uses manual and heavy machine guns: C6, C9 and M2 Browning. The basic light anti-tank weapons are the M72 LAW and BGM-71 TOW. Canadian motorized and mechanized infantry also use several modern types of KTO and other armored vehicles, mainly: LAV III, Piranha II or TAPV.
